Good veterinary care begins with understanding your pet as an individual. The information you provide about changes in your pet’s behaviour, appetite, activity and general health is an important part of their veterinary examination.
A thorough physical examination allows our veterinarians to assess your pet’s overall health and discuss appropriate preventive care, diagnostic testing or treatment when needed. During a routine examination, we assess areas such as the ears, eyes, teeth, skin and coat, and listen to the heart and lungs.
Regular veterinary examinations also allow us to monitor changes over time. Comparing your pet’s current health with previous examinations can help us identify changes early and tailor their ongoing care as they age.
Vaccinations
Vaccination is an important part of protecting dogs and cats against a range of serious infectious diseases. Your pet’s vaccination schedule is determined by factors such as their age, previous vaccination history, lifestyle and potential exposure to disease.
At Honeydew Animal Clinic, vaccination appointments also include a health examination, allowing our veterinarians to assess your pet’s overall health and discuss any concerns with you.
After the initial vaccination course, your veterinarian will recommend an appropriate ongoing vaccination schedule based on your pet’s individual needs and current vaccination guidelines.
Parasite Control
Effective parasite control is an important part of your pet’s preventive healthcare. Dogs and cats can be affected by internal parasites such as worms as well as external parasites including fleas and ticks.
Our veterinarians can recommend an appropriate parasite-control programme based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, environment and individual risk factors.
Microchipping
A microchip is a small identification device, approximately the size of a grain of rice, implanted under your pet’s skin. Each microchip has a unique identification number that can be read using a compatible scanner.
Microchipping provides a reliable way of identifying your pet if they become lost. It is important to ensure that the microchip is registered correctly and that your contact details are kept up to date.
Senior Wellness
As pets age, their healthcare needs can change and some age-related conditions become more common. Regular veterinary examinations allow us to monitor your pet’s health and identify changes that may require further investigation.
Senior pets may benefit from more frequent health assessments and, where appropriate, blood and urine testing to monitor organ function and screen for common age-related conditions. Your veterinarian can also provide guidance on nutrition, weight management, exercise and other aspects of senior pet care.
Health Certificate
If you are travelling with your pet, veterinary health requirements vary depending on your destination and the country you are travelling from. Requirements may include a microchip, vaccinations, parasite treatments, blood tests or other documentation, and preparation can take several weeks or months.
It is important to start the process well in advance and check the current requirements for your destination. Our veterinary team can advise you on the veterinary preparations required for your pet’s travel.
